for use in auditions and classes

FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS!

Click on the title of any play listed below to view its own special page, with a full synopsis, cast breakdown, production information and even part of the script for you to preview! If for some reason you have difficulty viewing the plays, try disabling your pop-up blocker (but you shouldn’t have to).

ONE: ASK FOR PERMISSION
Send me an EMAIL with "monologue" as the subject that includes ALL of the following:

  • Your NAME (full name preferred, but if you feel uncomfortable, you may just use your first name) and AGE (if still in school)
  • The SCHOOL or THEATRE it's for
  • Your CITY and STATE (or CITY and COUNTRY, if not the US)
  • The exact MONOLOGUE you want to use, and whether it's for a class or an audition.

This information is kept fully confidential and is only for my records.

TWO: WHAT I WILL SAY
I will almost always grant permission, as long as you agree not to make any cuts, additions or changes without asking first, and that you credit me and the play.

NO ROYALTY: Classroom work or audition.

NOMINAL ROYALTY: Public performance (cabaret, competition, etc). Probably $1 per performance. The price of a very cheap cup of coffee.

WARNING: Performing my work without my permission is ILLEGAL, as is reproducing any part of these monologues on a website or in print.

THREE: FOLLOW UP
Please follow up after the performance and let me know how things went. If for any reason you do not perform the monologue as planned, please tell me so!

WANT TO BE COOL?

STEP ONE: DON'T BE UNCOOL. I enjoy helping actors, particularly young actors, and I put these monologues here as a service to you. But don't ask me to tell you which monologue to do (I don't know you) and don't email me the night before you need the monologue and expect me to drop everything to respond.

STEP TWO: BECOME SUPER COOL. Convince your teacher to do a production of one of my plays. The monologues on this site are all from real plays of mine that are suitable for schools (and there are lots of other school-friendly plays on my site)--so tell your teacher about me!
